I started where All Trails says the finish is (the south shore end). But then I lost him and found the start of the trail and everything went better from there.

Last run on the lakefront during my time living here.
There are plenty of bathrooms along the way but they were ALL CLOSED for the season. For a city hike, it sure is spectacular! It's a great trail I've used many times, but it can be quite busy and traffic noise is more noticeable than I like.Smooth enough for Inline skatingChicago Lakefront Trail is a 28.3 kilometer moderately trafficked point-to-point trail located near Chicago, Illinois that features a lake and is good for all skill levels. Super thankful.Pretty path along the lakefront with nice views of the lake and the city.I was so proud of myself for doing this entire walk! Also, wear sunscreen! The skyline from the south is and always will be a better view and it's great to have it as your "guide to halfway" focal point through the first half of the trail. https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/illinois/chicago-lakefront The best. Most recently I went for an evening ride, around 9:30 pm and the lanes were wide open.

!Turn off your ad blocker to see a map of this trailThe only reason this isn’t 5 stars is because the trail(s) can get a bit crowded at high traffic times. If you aren’t so adept, consider riding either the northerly 8 miles or the southernly 10 only. You are walking in direct sunlight for almost the entirety of the trail. Different off road sections for sightseeing too! Dogs are also able to use this trail. The prettiest trail af all...but unfortunately a lot of ppl, so be careful. It’s an awesome walk, just watch out for the bicycles those guys move really fast.Beautiful scenery, perfect for families & various fitness levels. Please note that the trail from Ohio to North is closed and the beaches are not accessible (07/09/2020).Multiple Detours due to lake shore path closings and police barricades It is a beautiful and long walk. I took the redline to the Metra to get to the start. Weather was perfect and the view of downtown spectacular.Great trail off the lake front! The middle is busiest, centered around Grand Ave/Navy Pier., especially on weekends 9-5.Start on the south side and work your way up! Note that the trail from Ohio to North is closed and beaches are not currently accessible. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from March until November. A guy followed me for a couple blocks and there was no one else around. I’m glad I started there because it’s a sketchy neighborhood and am glad I didn’t end up there at night.

I do recommend doing it if you have a free day! Enjoy the views! If you are a road cyclist who has the technical skill to avoid pedestrians/rabid free-ranging toddlers, joggers, tourists, crossing vehicles, and potholes, you’ll enjoy this frogger of a road trail.
