Here’s how my methodology broke down: If you compare Leica glass with a Canonet QL17, you will have a massive difference in the contrast. This means that you can shoot and process them exactly the same way in the same chemicals for the same development time. I always get pissed off when I see film comparisons with different cameras, lenses, scenes, lighting conditions and the author concludes with some bullshit like “obviously the contrast, tonal range and sharpness of film X is superior based on this comparison”. You can right click on it and download the full image to look at it at full size if you want to look at it really close. So, what are we looking at? Introduction. ILFORD FP4 PLUS is a medium speed, all-purpose black & white film with very fine grain and outstanding sharpness. I've been mainly using FP4 since I started processing my own film a few years ago. Different development times will give different results though. I've always been happy with it, but am wanting to add HP5 to my repetoire. While their emulsion is made using the same technology as HP5 and FP4, the key difference is that they contain less silver and therefore don't offer the same quality, versatility or characteristics.Kentmere films offer superb value for money and are a great starting point for students or anyone learning film photography, before stepping up to ILFORD films.Sign up and join our analogue community today. We want you to know exactly how our service works and what happens to your data. FP4+ needed to be exposed at EI 64-80 with commensurately less development to achieve the same fine grain. It retains the highlights well, has nice mid-tones and loads of detail in the shadows. They are also less sensitive to over processing making them ideal for people learning about film photography. There is no right or wrong choice when choosing between DELTA PROFESSIONAL and PLUS films.
