We had to add those layers because if we didn’t, he would just be this flat character. I think Jason kind of embodies the kid in all of us and I feel like with a lot of the stress and pressure that people feel nowadays - whether it be from work or family or politics, especially here in America - if we just go back to that childlike nature, I think it’d be a lot better for us and a lot less stressful. Because of the fact that Mike is just so grounded and genuine and kind, it passes on to the leads that he chooses. I am so appreciative of all the writers and creators of The Good Place. We sit down with the talented young actor to talk about the genesis of his character, Jason’s relationships with Tahani and Janet and the importance of not being a stereotypical character on television. So when we have scenes with with Derek, we don’t know what to expect. I hoped she didn’t do that that well. It’s going to be the biggest thing that I take away from the whole experience, no matter how long we go for. I’ve come to believe that if you can really do something good for somebody, be it a good action or you know, volunteer or something and without having to try and look good, that makes you a truly good person. MANNY JACINTO: Yeah, I think so. With Kristen and Ted, they constantly remind themselves how lucky we are to be able to just come to work and play, and like we get fed, we get told what to do, and we get to play pretend for work. We’ve gone through like, yeah, almost four seasons now and you think I’d be teaching a class on philosophy, but no, it’s so difficult. The character definitely encapsulates this guy in this video. So he’s always coming at us with different alt lines or just different ways of saying things. It’s always a whirlwind.I am definitely not an expert in moral philosophy. What makes a truly good person is not seeking any reward when you do something good for other people.

There is no ego and no divas, and you can just do your best work and you’re allowed to have fun. And in terms of trying to make Jason continuously grow emotionally, a big part of that is, is, is the writers. Yeah, I don’t think it’ll ever go away in that sense, which is a good thingBe kind. With over 400 scripted series on television today, it’s hard for a series to stand out and be different. **The Good Place photos courtesy of Colleen Hayes/Vivian Zink/NBC**With over 400 scripted series on television today, it’s hard for a series to stand out and be different. She might end up taking all our jobs by the end of the day. It’s always going to be in the back of my mind, I swear they have like a backup Jason Mendoza ready to go sometimes.I knew they shouldn’t have done that episode. Well, we are happy to say that one show has beaten the odds so far. Take a listen to the episode above, and find a transcript of the Manny Jacinto interview below.

**Main photo courtesy of Dianne Doan**As the auditions kept going, we had to tweak things because it just wasn’t about Jason being a “bro”, we had to add his sweetness and his innocence. Manny Jacinto arrives for his BUST photo shoot wearing a gray T-shirt and black slacks, not a track suit like his lovable goofball character, Jason Mendoza, sports on NBC’s The Good Place. We meet on a Saturday in the Hollywood photo studio because he’s busy during the week shooting the final season of the philosophical comedy (which premiered September 26). Manny Jacinto Interview: 'The Good Place' Manny Jacinto had to say goodbye to “The Good Place” and his character, Jason Mendoza, earlier this year. I guess I get to kind of get away with not having to know as much because of my character, if that makes any sense. And there’s an unlimited supply of it because of his improvisational abilities because he’s a freaking legend in that area. But I think that fear itself is good, because it pushes me to do better and to be ready and to not make a fool of myself, even though my job is to make a fool of myself, which is really ironic and weird. Interview: Manny Jacinto. But for me, Jason is definitely a mix of different people and different experiences. They aren’t related, they aren’t talking about being Filipino and they aren’t speaking in their language. I mean, the biggest thing from the beginning has always been trying to stick to the truth. They’re constantly giving me different challenges and just kind of studying how Jason went from season one to now in season four and the things that I’m doing, I can see that the writers have been mindful.Of course. That kind of mind-set of being kind to people and you know, to be humble and genuine has has always resonated throughout these four years. When he comes into a show, he doesn’t necessarily have to abide by the same rules. I remember when I first started on the show, I kind of do all these crazy things and I’d say the joke in a way that wouldn’t really make sense, but I remember Mike coming up to me like that’s great and everything, but let’s just make sure that it’s, it’s truthful in the way you say it, because people can tell right away when you’re trying to be funny or when you’re trying to make them laugh.
