He alreadyhad a criminal record and was associated with a gang of Italians engaged inrobbing freight cars. When Judge Thayer placed the case in thejury's hands for judgment he charged them that the Commonwealth had introducedthe testimony of two experts, Proctor and Van Amburgh, to the effect that thefatal bullet went through Sacco's Pistol.At the time of the Braintree holdup the police were investigating a similarcrime in the neighboring town of Bridgewater.
