This Zambezi River Cruise provides great game viewing of the Victoria Falls area!Dammed at the confluence of the Mshagashe and Mutirikwi Rivers, Lake Mutirikwi forms two sides of a 12 000 hectare triangular game park. Construction on this monument had began in the 11th century and went on till 15th century. The Park is home to more than 25 species of wild mammals, including buffalo, zebra, jackal, leopard, honey badger, hippo, giraffe, warthog, ostrich, and many species of antelope. The park has a large breeding population of white rhino, and some of the world’s largest lizards (up to 3 metres in length).
The only time I was there when they opened the gate was in 1994!
It was the capital of the Kingdom of Zimbabwe during the country’s Late Iron Age. An ancient Bushman rock painting of a hunting scene can be found nearby. There were several pictures of dead mermaid found at Lake Mutirikwi (Kyle) Dam in Masvingo on the internet. Now the lake looks very low maybe the fact that we are in winter may have played a role.

The Lake capacity was very high. Masvingo Town is the provincial capital of Zimbabwe’s south eastern province of Masvingo. On the northern shore of Lake Mutirikwi, the landscape is characterised by rolling hills, covered mainly by miombo woodland and grassland – making this one of the most scenically beautiful parks in Zimbabwe.
